I am running for Berkeley School Board because I believe in Berkeley kids, Berkeley families, Berkeley teachers, and Berkeley public schools.
I am proud of the years I spent working as a teacher and principal in BUSD and grateful for the education my two children have experienced here. I currently serve as the Director of School Improvement for the Oakland public schools. I am eager to offer my knowledge and experience, to give back to Berkeley’s public schools in a new role—School Board Director.
Guided by BUSD’s commitment to the four 4 E’s (Equity, Excellence, Enrichment, and Engagement), I will partner with families, students, teachers, and administrators to realize critical goals:
- Addressing persistent equity gaps by accelerating the academic achievement of students of color, students with IEPs, and English Learner students;
- Ensuring that Berkeley schools are anti-racist, inclusive, neurodiversity-affirming and LGBTQ-friendly communities that truly partner with families to serve all students; and
- Recruiting and retaining high quality teachers and staff.
To address these issues, BUSD needs a long-term strategic vision to provide organizational clarity and help with prioritization and difficult budget decisions. All of our decisions should be grounded in data, and should center the goal of supporting and challenging all students to thrive in our public schools.
